Nrtya Jyoti Supplementary School meets each week on Saturday during term time. Students are between 5 and 16 years of age. Our aim is to impart education in Bharatiya dance and associated cultural activities encouraging today’s generation to take part, appreciate and understand their culture.
Each session encompasses Bharat Natyam, associated classical music and yoga. In addition, student’s have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as Rangoli – traditional patterns using traditional materials such as colours, flowers, grains, sand etc., drama and various crafts. On a regular basis students also get the opportunity to participate in healthy living and food workshops, along with team building and other sporting activities.
In addition to keeping their training record up to date by filing all handouts in a proper manner; students are also required to write up reports about their experience of their performances and encouraged to prepare talks about what they learn during the sessions. Full support is given to each student ensuring they can successfully carry out these tasks.
We are delighted that our principal teacher is registered and approved by The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD – is one of the world’s leading dance examinations board), teaching classical and folk dances, theory and practice as well as Yoga.
Nrtya Jyoti also engages various freelance artists and a qualified teacher of Bharat Natyam to teach the ISTD grade exams.
